The US Vets / Tunnel to Towers Veterans Village fishing and beach day is set for Saturday August 29th! The program is the same as the previous trip which was scrubbed due to bad weather. This will be at:
Surfside Jetty County Park
101 Parkview Road
Surfside, Texas 77541
This is south of Freeport more or less at the south end of 288. There are 3 or 4 Buc-ees along that drive so no excuses. The plan is:
1. We will serve a lunch of about 100 each hamburgers and hot dogs, with chips and watermelon with food service starting at noon.
2. Mr. Roger Koehler and his RAF Crew have volunteered to bring and man (person?) the grill. It's gonna be hot out there so this is a tough job. My wife bought a bunch of small microfiber towels that we are planning to soak in ice water out there and make available to you volunteers to put around your neck if you want. No we don't need them back.
3. Others will be providing the drinks and dessert. But we could use some help with -
4. Could someone volunteer to get and bring and ice down (and cut and serve?) about five watermelons? We will reimburse you of course. I think we had six last year and to my surprise we had quite a bit of watermelon left over. So I'm guessing five will do the job.
5. If someone wants to get and be in charge of the condiments for 100 burgers and 100 hot dogs that would be marvy. And of course we will reimburse you. I'm talking about mustard, mayo, catsup, relish, etc.
6. Maybe someone could volunteer to get and bring some iced down water bottles for the volunteers Maybe two cases would do? I don't know what time the other drinks will arrive.
7. If you can make it, please plan to be there around 10-11 am. Dress for hot weather and wear your lightest favorite team gear. Last year parking was pretty tight at the park so carpooling might be a good plan. (There just might be an after party in Jamaica Beach too.)
