Tailgaters,

A big thank you to those of you who came out this past Saturday at Midtown Terrace and helped serve around 600 meals to the veterans and staff there. It was a little cool early but the overcast burned off and it was almost warm by the time we left at 1:00. A special shout-out to Jacque Conner and Luby’s who provided many boxes of pies (cheese cake pies, Mississippi mud pie, apple, pecan…)! Not sure of the exact pie count but it was a lot. I think the only left-overs after all the meals were served, were some pies and two cases of water bottles. We also want to welcome Tommy Lamb and the Men’s Group from St. Timothy’s Anglican Church in Spring (aka Band of Brothers). About a dozen of them came out which was a very big help – seemed to me we had about the right number of volunteers overall. I didn’t make a count but I think there were around 30 of us including Roger Douglas and his buddies from Navasota First Baptist, Mr. Tailgate himself - Ray Condron and Jason Tantillo and friends, several of my co-workers from Costello, Inc., and several TGWAH old-timers from Mission Bend United Methodist Church. My apologies if I left anyone else out.

As far as we know right now, we do not have any other events scheduled until October 4, 2014 when we will kick-off next season with the 6th Annual Tailgate with a Hero at the DeBakey VA hospital. Remember we are always at DeBakey on the first Saturday in October. We would still like to get a trip put together to The Domiciliary – a VA transitional housing facility near DeBakey. There are only 40 residents at The Dom so we only need a handful of us to put that together – guys let’s figure this out and plan something. We’ll talk.

Thank you for all you do to honor our veterans, especially those most in need. We hope to see you at the Michael E. DeBakey VA hospital campus on October 4, 2014 for the Big Tailgate.
